Mark was christened, in St Matthew's Hayfield Derbys, on 27 Dec 1817, son of Ellen RANGELEY, weaver, from Highgate.
The entry is followed by a large "B", which presumably means "Bastard" as Ellen wasn't married at the time.
I don't know who Mark's father is. James Gregory married his mother much later, in 1828, which would seem to rule him out as a potential father.
